Philadelphia Union Academy has announced that goalkeeper Matthew White has been selected for the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team Domestic Identity Training Camp during the September FIFA window.
White is among two Academy players called up to the U.S. team this window. Forward Jamir Johnson was also chosen for the U.S. U-17 squad, which will play friendly matches against the Netherlands on September 5 and September 8 at Gemeentelijk Sportpark SJC in Noordwijk, Netherlands. Both games are scheduled to start at 7 p.m. local time (1 p.m. ET).
The Union organization now has a record nine players selected by U.S. Soccer, including first team members Eddy Davis III, Sal Olivas, Neil Pierre, Andrew Rick, Cavan Sullivan, Frankie Westfield; Union II’s Malik Jakupovic, Kellan LeBlanc, Kaiden Moore; and Johnson from the Union Academy.
According to Philadelphia Union Academy: “The camp is a part of the Federation’s continued focus on the U.S. Way philosophy, which emphasizes increased programming for Youth National Teams to create more opportunities for young players to advance through the pathway to the senior National Team with the goal of representing their country at a world championship.”
The U-17 team will train alongside the U-19s from September 1-8 at McCurry Park in Fayetteville, Georgia.
The roster includes three goalkeepers: James Donaldson (Atlanta United), Toby Szewczyk (New York Red Bulls), and Matthew White (Philadelphia Union). Other positions include eight defenders, five midfielders, and seven forwards from clubs across Major League Soccer and international teams.
