The University of Pennsylvania field hockey team secured a 2-1 victory over Columbia on Friday in New York, with senior Livia Loozen scoring the decisive goal in the final minutes of the match. This win marks Penn’s sixth of the season and their second in Ivy League play.

Julia Ryan opened the scoring for Penn early in the first quarter, netting her seventh goal of the season. The Quakers maintained offensive pressure throughout the opening period, but Columbia goalkeeper Margot Houle prevented further damage with two saves. Penn’s defense limited Columbia to no shots in the first quarter and just one shot by halftime, as Penn led 1-0 at the break.

The third quarter saw both teams struggle to create scoring opportunities, with Penn recording the only shot. In the fourth quarter, Columbia’s Ashley Kim tied the game at 1-1. With just over two minutes remaining, Honor Roberts advanced downfield and assisted Livia Loozen, who scored her second goal of the season to secure the win for Penn.

Penn outshot Columbia 9-2 during the match and has now allowed only one goal across its last two games. The team has also achieved back-to-back wins for the second time this season.

Looking ahead, Penn will face Temple on Sunday at noon as they aim for a third consecutive victory.

“With just over two minutes left to play, Honor Roberts broke away down field and found her teammate in the circle. Livia Loozen came up clutch, finding the back of the net as the Quakers went on to win, 2-1.”
