Philadelphia Union earned a 4-0 victory over Chicago Fire at home on Saturday, with four different players scoring. Following the match, Major League Soccer recognized Kai Wagner and Milan Iloski for their performances by naming them to the MLS Team of the Matchday.
Wagner, who plays left back and is 28 years old, recorded a goal and an assist in the game. He also helped the team achieve its tenth shutout of the season. Wagner’s free kick goal was Philadelphia’s second of the night, created in coordination with Iloski.
“I remembered a play from probably two years ago, that we had trained in training, then I explained it really quick to Milan. I think me and Milan have a good understanding already on the pitch of each other. So, I just explained the term,” Wagner said.
“It looked like a little bit awkward, probably because we never played it in training, but it worked out perfect. So we’re happy about how we executed.”
Wagner has now tallied 10 assists and two goals across 26 matches this season. He becomes only the third player in club history to reach more than 70 combined goals and assists in league play.
Iloski joined Philadelphia Union earlier this month as a striker from California. In his third regular season appearance for the team, he provided both a goal and an assist against Chicago Fire. After assisting Wagner’s free kick goal, Iloski scored Philadelphia’s fourth goal in the 80th minute. This performance led to his first selection to the MLS Team of the Matchday bench since joining Philadelphia.
With this win, Philadelphia Union moved back into first place in both the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield standings with 54 points. The team’s next match will be against FC Cincinnati at TQL Stadium.
