Practice at the NovaCare Complex has ended, but Jihaad Campbell is still engaging with military members in attendance. The first-round draft pick, a native of South Jersey, has returned to play for the Philadelphia Eagles, a team he grew up supporting.
Campbell, who was projected as a top 15 draft pick from the University of Alabama, was picked by the Eagles at No. 31 after they traded up. Reflecting on his return home, Campbell expressed his excitement: “Back at home, back with the Birds, wow, my dream NFL team, it’s amazing.”
Despite missing spring practices due to a shoulder injury sustained in college, Campbell has been participating in practice in a limited capacity. He appreciates being part of the Eagles’ defense and is committed to putting in the necessary work: “I’ve been injured before and that is part of the game,” he noted.
The Eagles are taking their time with Campbell’s development. They aim to enhance his versatility while ensuring he isn’t rushed onto the field prematurely. Currently taking reps as an inside linebacker, there is potential for him to also contribute as a pass rusher.
Campbell remains focused on growth and development: “It’s been great to be an Eagle,” he said. “It feels great to be on the field and showing what I can do.” For now, he’s embracing every moment as he embarks on this journey with high hopes for his future with the team.
