As the Philadelphia Eagles wrapped up their public Training Camp sessions and prepared for the final preseason game, quarterback Jalen Hurts spoke about the team’s progress ahead of the 2025 season.
“I think we had a really good offseason and a really good Training Camp and being able to build on the foundation that we’ve established over the years. I think we’re headed in a good direction,” Hurts said Wednesday at the NovaCare Complex. “We just want to continue to build. I think for the context of what Training Camp serves, you want to find the identity and we know what we’re capable of and the things we need to work on. When you go into Training Camp, you’re trying new things, trying to expand your repertoire, and build on some things and you take the highs with the lows knowing that you kind of know what direction you want to be in.
“It’s just about building. I think we did just that.”
Over 20 days of practice, several players stood out for their performance. Tyler Steen secured his position as starting right guard, while depth improved among wide receivers. The running back group showed strength, defensive front seven demonstrated talent, rookies appeared ready to contribute early, and second-year players like Will Shipley, Jeremiah Trotter Jr., and Jalyx Hunt made notable strides. Backup quarterback Tanner McKee integrated well into his role behind Hurts. On coaching staff changes, Kevin Patullo adapted smoothly as offensive coordinator and playcaller.
The team now faces decisions about finalizing its 53-man roster before Tuesday’s deadline.
“My process has evolved on what I expect from Training Camp,” Hurts said. “I think, over the years, it’s become more and more about winning and I know that is a very broad thing and it takes everyone. It takes truly everyone. When it comes to having a new offensive playcaller and new offensive coordinator, you take all of those things into consideration. When you’re filling in voids at any position, you take all of those things into consideration, and when you are trying to build a new identity or establish something new, you take all of those things into consideration.”
Hurts emphasized teamwork as preparations continue: “Where are we gonna be as a team? It’s not about where am I. Where is Jalen? It’s about where we are. I can’t do my job without everyone else.”
The immediate focus shifts toward facing the New York Jets in their third preseason game—an opportunity for players competing for roster spots—before attention turns fully toward their regular-season opener against Dallas at Lincoln Financial Field on September 4.
“We’re all on the same page with the same message,” Hurts added. “What can we do to win that week? That’s where you put all of your energy and focus because that is all that truly matters.”
