The Ivy League announced on April 7 that the 2027 Ivy Madness men’s and women’s basketball tournaments will take place at The Palestra in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, as part of the venue’s centennial celebration.

This announcement is significant because it marks a return to The Palestra for the first time since 2018 and coincides with the historic arena’s 100th anniversary. Ivy League Executive Director Robin Harris said, “We are excited to bring Ivy Madness back to Philadelphia as part of the 100-year anniversary of the historic Palestra. Since its inception, Ivy Madness has provided a season-capstone experience for student-athletes, coaches, and fans, and it has thrived in each Ivy League community it has visited over the past eight years. We anticipate tremendous excitement for the 2027 tournaments in Philadelphia.”

Alanna Wren, T. Gibbs Kane, Jr. W’69 Director of Athletics and Recreation at Penn, said, “We are grateful to the Ivy League and our colleagues across the other seven institutions, especially Dartmouth, for their support in helping Penn celebrate the 100th anniversary of The Palestra by hosting Ivy Madness in 2027. On behalf of our Division and the University, we are thrilled to welcome student-athletes, coaches, and fans to the Cathedral of College Basketball next March and to add another unforgettable chapter to this storied venue’s rich history.”

The league originally planned for Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire to host in 2027 as part of a rotation model introduced after The Palestra last hosted in 2018. However, Dartmouth agreed not to host so that celebrations could coincide with The Palestra’s milestone year—a decision approved by league athletics directors.

Harris said,”The competitiveness of this league is matched only by the collegiality shared among the league’s institutions.” She added,”Dartmouth’s willingness to forego hosting the 2027 tournaments in order for the league to celebrate this historic milestone while also allowing time to evaluate future structure is a testament to the collaborative spirit that defines the Ivy League.” Future tournament locations beyond 2027 will be announced following further discussions within league leadership.
