Hunter Pence, a former Major League Baseball outfielder, reflected on his unique playing style and a memorable moment from his career during the latest episode of the “6-1-1 Podcast.” The podcast is co-hosted by Ryan Howard and Jimmy Rollins.
Pence discussed a key play from Game 7 of the 2012 National League Championship Series, where he hit a double that made contact with his bat three times. “It felt like I had a lacrosse ball on my bat, and I threw it out there,” Pence said. “The shortstop went right, and the ball went to his left — never seen that before. Honestly, that was an ‘Angels in the Outfield’-type moment. I don’t even know, man.”
Over his 14-year MLB career, Pence played for several teams including the Astros, Phillies, Giants, and Rangers. He spoke about performing in front of enthusiastic fans throughout his career.
Pence also shared memories from his time with the San Francisco Giants. Ryan Howard compared San Francisco to Philadelphia in terms of passionate fanbases, calling it “the Philadelphia of the West.” Pence responded, “I think I just kind of aligned with the city. It was a unique culture over there at the time.”
