Howie Roseman, the executive vice president and general manager of the Philadelphia Eagles, continues to make changes to the team’s roster as the 2025 NFL season progresses. Roseman is known for his constant focus on improving the team, regardless of the time of year.
“It’s all I think about all the time. I’m thinking about what we’re going to do next year in August,” Roseman said as the Eagles prepared for Super Bowl LIX. “I’m thinking about what 2026 looks like, what 2027 looks like every night when I go to bed. So, it doesn’t really change. That’s my role.”
In recent weeks, several transactions have taken place under Roseman’s direction:
On August 18, the Eagles acquired wide receiver John Metchie III and a 2026 sixth-round pick from the Houston Texans in exchange for tight end Harrison Bryant and a 2026 fifth-round pick. Metchie has been working to learn the offense and has contributed on special teams.
On August 24, quarterback Sam Howell and a 2026 sixth-round pick were obtained from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 seventh-round pick. Howell is currently serving as the backup quarterback while Tanner McKee recovers from injury.
The following day, offensive tackle Fred Johnson was brought in from the Jacksonville Jaguars for a 2026 seventh-round pick. Johnson adds depth at both tackle positions on the offensive line.
Also on August 25, Philadelphia traded T/G Darian Kinnard to the Green Bay Packers for a 2027 sixth-round draft selection. This move increased draft capital available for future transactions.
On August 27, guard/center Willie Lampkin was claimed off waivers from the Los Angeles Rams but is currently on Injured Reserve as he develops with guidance from Eagles coaches.
The team signed veteran defensive end Za’Darius Smith as an unrestricted free agent on September 5. Smith has started practicing with hopes that he will strengthen Philadelphia’s pass rush during this season.
Most recently, running back and kickoff returner Tank Bigsby joined from Jacksonville in exchange for both a fifth- and sixth-round pick in next year’s draft. Bigsby is expected to contribute both as a runner and return specialist while under contract through at least 2026.
Roseman’s ongoing efforts reflect his commitment to building both immediate competitiveness and long-term stability for Philadelphia’s roster.
