The Philadelphia Flyers were defeated 5-4 in overtime by the Utah Mammoth on Wednesday night in Salt Lake City. Despite holding leads of 3-0 and 4-2, the Flyers could not secure a win.
Clayton Keller scored with less than a minute left in regulation to tie the game and then netted the winning goal in overtime. These were Keller’s 14th and 15th goals of the season. Dylan Guenther contributed with a goal and an assist during Utah’s comeback.
Cam York opened scoring for Philadelphia early in the first period, followed by Christian Dvorak, who extended the lead four minutes later. Bobby Brink added another goal at the start of the second period on a power play, putting the Flyers ahead by three.
Utah responded with two quick goals from JJ Peterka and Lawson Crouse before Dvorak scored again for Philadelphia, also on a power play. Guenther then scored for Utah to narrow Philadelphia’s lead to one. In the third period, Keller tied it late before scoring again in overtime.
Samuel Ersson made 22 saves on 27 shots for Philadelphia, while Karel Vejmelka stopped 25 of 29 shots for Utah. The Flyers converted two out of six power plays and killed two out of three penalties.
Travis Konecny assisted on both opening goals for Philadelphia after leading all Flyers players with 24 points since December 1 over a span of 24 games. He was coming off a two-goal performance against Vegas earlier in the week.
Philadelphia showed improvement compared to their previous game—a win against Vegas—by controlling territory early and winning faceoffs but struggled to maintain discipline as Utah took advantage late in regulation and overtime.
