The Philadelphia Flyers are preparing for the fourth annual Rookie Series, set to take place on September 12-13 at the PPL Center in Allentown. The event will feature Flyers prospects competing against those from the New York Rangers in two games.
Eleven Flyers prospects have been highlighted as players to watch during Rookie Camp, which precedes the main NHL training camp and preseason opener against the New York Islanders on September 21 in Elmont, NY.
Among forwards, Alex Bump is aiming for a spot on the NHL roster after a strong final collegiate season at Western Michigan and an impactful debut with the Lehigh Valley Phantoms. Jett Luchanko, selected 13th overall in 2024, returns after spending time with Guelph Storm and recovering from a lower-body issue. Denver Barkey will make his professional debut following a successful run as captain of the London Knights, who captured both OHL and Memorial Cup titles last season.
Jack Nesbitt, chosen 12th overall in this year’s draft after the Flyers traded up ten spots, attends his first Rookie Camp as an 18-year-old center from Windsor Spitfires. Karsen Dorwart joins after signing as a free agent out of Michigan State and playing five NHL games late last season. Devin Kaplan turned pro after three years at Boston University and made his NHL debut late last season; he is expected to spend most of his rookie campaign with Lehigh Valley.
On defense, Oliver Bonk enters his first professional season following a standout junior career with London Knights and appearances for Team Canada at recent World Junior Championships. Spencer Gill returns to QMJHL action soon but has added size over the past year despite missing playoff action due to injury. Ty Murchison brings physical play after four years at Arizona State and impressed during late-season games with Lehigh Valley. Ethan Samson is noted for his shooting ability as he enters the final year of his entry-level contract.
Goaltender Carson Bjarnason begins his first professional campaign after being drafted in 2023. He is expected to start one of the two Rookie Series games following recovery from a lower-body injury that affected him during WHL playoffs.
Collegiate prospects are not participating in Rookie Camp due to NCAA rules that prevent college players from attending pro team camps overlapping with academic calendars. This restriction remains despite recent changes allowing more flexibility around amateur eligibility outside these dates.
