The Philadelphia Flyers were defeated 3-0 by the Tampa Bay Lightning at Benchmark International Arena on Monday night. The game saw limited scoring opportunities, with Tampa Bay’s top line accounting for all three goals.
Brandon Hagel scored his tenth goal of the season late in the first period, giving Tampa a 1-0 lead going into intermission. Anthony Cirelli increased the lead to 2-0 in the second period, and Hagel added an empty-net goal—his eleventh of the season—with just 15 seconds remaining in regulation.
Hagel finished with three points, while Nikita Kucherov assisted on all three Tampa goals. Cirelli contributed both a goal and an assist.
Andrei Vasilevskiy stopped all 20 shots he faced to secure the shutout for Tampa Bay. Flyers goaltender Samuel Ersson made 15 saves on 17 shots in the loss.
The first period was largely played in the Flyers’ defensive zone, with high-danger chances favoring Tampa four to two. Nick Deslauriers fought Curtis Douglas midway through the period. After Hagel’s opening goal, Tampa maintained pressure before Philadelphia generated a late scoring chance from Travis Konecny.
In the second period, both teams had difficulty generating offense early on. The Flyers managed some net-front presence but could not capitalize. Cirelli’s tip-in from Hagel extended Tampa’s lead after a transition rush late in the frame.
The third period remained low-scoring, with few significant chances until a sequence of penalties resulted in brief power plays for both teams. The Flyers’ only power play was short-lived and did not result in a goal; they finished 0-for-1 with the man advantage and killed off both of their own penalties successfully.
Late in regulation, as Philadelphia pulled their goalie for an extra attacker, Hagel sealed the win for Tampa with an empty-net goal assisted by Kucherov and Cirelli.
After the game, analysis pointed out that “Tampa got all their offense from one line. The Flyers were shut out: not the type of balanced production anyone wanted.” It was also noted that “the Flyers forecheck made some promising plays happen when they were actually able to apply pressure,” but overall there were “long stretches where forechecking opportunities were scant.”
Philadelphia’s starting lineup included Trevor Zegras centering Owen Tippett and Christian Dvorak on one line, with Samuel Ersson starting in net.
