The Philadelphia Flyers were defeated 2-1 by the Calgary Flames at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Sunday. Calgary’s Jonathan Huberdeau scored both goals for the Flames, marking his third and fourth goals of the season. Aleksei Kolosov, in goal for the Flyers, stopped 19 out of 21 shots but took the loss. Dustin Wolf made 17 saves on 18 shots to secure the win for Calgary.

Huberdeau broke a scoreless tie early in the second period with assists from Yegor Sharangovich and Kevin Bahl. He extended Calgary’s lead to 2-0 in the third period by deflecting a point shot from Mackenzie Weegar, who was assisted by Joel Hanley.

Flyers captain Sean Couturier took a hit above his right knee from a Cam York shot in the first period but remained in play. The opening frame saw few chances, with only one significant scoring opportunity coming from Christian Dvorak on a shorthanded breakaway that missed the net. At intermission, shots favored Calgary 10-3.

During two periods, Philadelphia struggled to get pucks into scoring areas. Many of their attempts were blocked or missed wide, and Wolf faced little pressure through most of his nine saves after two periods.

In response to being down two goals in the third period, Flyers coach Rick Tocchet shuffled line combinations. The team generated more pressure but could not capitalize until Travis Konecny scored at 14:20 following an offensive zone faceoff win by Noah Cates.

Philadelphia pulled Kolosov for an extra attacker late in regulation and called a timeout with just over a minute left but could not find an equalizer. Huberdeau nearly completed a hat trick into an empty net but iced the puck with seconds remaining.

After the game, coach Tocchet commented on his team’s performance: “We need more will from our players to go to scoring areas. Without it, it’s hard to have consistent success.”

The Flyers went without a power-play goal (0-for-1) but successfully killed both penalties they faced.
