The Philadelphia Flyers ended a six-game losing streak with a 2-1 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights at T-Mobile Arena on Monday night. The win also halted Vegas’s seven-game winning run.
Travis Konecny scored both goals for the Flyers, each unassisted and coming on breakaways. Samuel Ersson made 23 saves, allowing only one goal and delivering what was described as his best performance of the season.
Konecny’s first goal, his 16th of the season, came early in the first period after he intercepted a turnover by Tomas Hertl and beat Vegas goaltender Adin Hill. Despite being charged with eight giveaways and three minor penalties in the opening frame, Philadelphia held onto a 1-0 lead into intermission.
Vegas tied the game late in the second period when Tomas Hertl deflected a shot for a power-play goal, assisted by Jack Eichel and Mark Stone. This evened up play after Philadelphia had performed well through most of the middle period.
Konecny scored again in the third period while shorthanded, putting Philadelphia ahead for good. Ersson continued to make key stops as Vegas increased pressure late in regulation, including during a two-man advantage with their goalie pulled. The Flyers’ penalty kill unit was effective throughout, going 6-for-7 on kills and contributing to Konecny’s shorthanded tally.
Bobby Brink returned to action for Philadelphia after missing five games due to injury, logging over thirteen minutes of ice time and blocking two shots. Lane Pederson made his debut for the Flyers following a call-up from Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
The Flyers have been part of the National Hockey League since its expansion in 1967 and play home games at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The organization maintains an updated roster and engages fans through games and community activities (https://www.nhl.com/flyers/).
Philadelphia will look to build on this result as they aim to address ongoing issues such as turnovers and penalties while continuing improvements seen against Vegas.
