The Philadelphia Flyers secured a 6-3 win over the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Arena on Tuesday. After a slow start, the Flyers took control in the second period and maintained their lead through a competitive third period.
Vancouver controlled much of the first ten minutes, with Marcus Pettersson nearly scoring seconds after the opening faceoff. The Canucks opened the scoring when David Kampf netted his second goal of the season. Noah Cates tied it for Philadelphia later in the period, assisted by Matvei Michkov and Bobby Brink.
Philadelphia dominated play in the second period, adding goals from Carl Grundstrom and Travis Konecny to take a 3-1 lead into intermission. Grundstrom’s goal marked his seventh since being recalled from Lehigh Valley Phantoms.
In the third period, Drew O’Connor scored for Vancouver to make it 3-2 before Bobby Brink restored Philadelphia’s two-goal advantage. Owen Tippett added a shorthanded empty-net goal, and Christian Dvorak scored another empty-netter after Tom Willander briefly cut into Philadelphia’s lead.
Goaltender Dan Vladar made 31 saves on 34 shots for Philadelphia, keeping them competitive during Vancouver’s early surge. “He almost singlehandedly kept the game manageable in the early minutes,” according to postgame notes.
The line of Cates, Michkov, and Brink provided momentum for Philadelphia after an initial deficit. “All three players earned points as Cates reached double-digit goals for the season,” with Michkov recording his 50th career assist on Brink’s goal.
Grundstrom has now scored seven goals in eleven games since his recall and contributed consistently against Vancouver. The Flyers’ penalty kill was effective, going four-for-four while Tippett added a shorthanded goal.
Philadelphia went 0-for-1 on their power play opportunities but managed to keep Vancouver scoreless with an extra man.
