More than 60 former Philadelphia Flyers participated in the recent Flyers Alumni Charity Classic weekend. The event, which included a pickleball tournament in Malvern, a walk/run/ride event in Conshohocken, and an annual golf tournament in Wilmington, aimed to raise funds for various causes.
Following the golf event at Dupont Country Club, Brad Marsh announced new initiatives under the “Alumni Supporting Alumni” programs. These programs operate separately but share a common goal.
The Medical Concierge program, organized with Dr. Gary Dorshimer, aims to assist under-insured or uninsured alumni needing medical procedures. The Flyers Alumni Association may facilitate travel to Philadelphia for treatment when necessary.
Mental and behavioral health services are also provided confidentially by the association to alumni in need. Additionally, if elderly or infirmed alumni cannot travel to Philadelphia for events, familiar faces from the association will visit them at their homes. Orest Kindrachuk recently visited Ed Van Impe before his passing. Joe Watson and Al MacAdam visited Forbes Kennedy last holiday season.
The Alumni Scholarship program is available to children or grandchildren of alumni, with applications reviewed by the board of directors.
Brad Marsh emphasized their responsibility to give back through community programs and supporting fellow alumni. He stated: “We have a responsibility to give back to the local community. We do that with our programs like Every Child Deserves a Bike and 12 Days of Christmas. We also have a responsibility to support our fellow Alumni.”
Marsh noted that funding comes from fundraising events like the Charity Classic weekend and support from sponsors and fans.
