The Philadelphia Flyers have acquired forward Carl Grundstrom and defenseman Artem Guryev from the San Jose Sharks. In return, the Flyers sent defenseman Ryan Ellis and a conditional sixth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft to San Jose. The transaction was announced by General Manager Daniel Briere.

According to the terms of the trade, San Jose will receive the earlier of two sixth-round picks that Philadelphia currently holds for 2026—either their own or one originally belonging to Columbus. Following this deal, Philadelphia retains five selections in the 2026 draft: one each in rounds one through three, one in round six, and another in round seven.

Grundstrom, age 27, scored three goals and collected nine points over 56 games with San Jose during the 2024-25 season. He has played parts of seven seasons in the NHL with a total of 292 games, accumulating 43 goals and 33 assists for 76 points. Grundstrom also played four seasons in Sweden’s top league before joining North American hockey and won an SHL championship in 2016-17. He was selected by Toronto as the 57th overall pick in the second round of the 2016 draft.

Guryev, age 22, was chosen by San Jose as a fifth-round pick (135th overall) in the 2021 draft and signed his entry-level contract in April of last year. The defenseman stands at six-foot-four and weighs 225 pounds. During the most recent season with Wichita Thunder in the ECHL, he recorded five points across 47 games. Guryev made his AHL debut during the previous campaign where he tallied four points and ranked second on his team for penalty minutes with a total of 81.

Guryev is set to join Lehigh Valley Phantoms, Philadelphia’s AHL affiliate.
