The Philadelphia Eagles resumed training camp on Saturday following their preseason opener, with several players making notable contributions during practice.
Cornerback Eli Ricks stood out by intercepting quarterback Tanner McKee and returning it for a touchdown. Ricks has shown consistent activity around the ball in recent sessions. Tight end Grant Calcaterra was also prominent in the passing game, catching passes from both Jalen Hurts and McKee.
Quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson delivered a strong performance, highlighted by a pressured throw to Taylor Morin in the back of the end zone. Morin managed to secure the catch while keeping his feet in bounds and later caught a two-point conversion.
On defense, Jalen Carter recorded a strip-sack against Hurts, contributing to an overall strong showing from the defensive line, which applied pressure throughout practice. Joshua Uche had what would have been a sack on Hurts after executing a quick move off the line.
Wide receiver DeVonta Smith made an impressive diving catch over the middle of the field. Kelee Ringo had success defending Smith on another play. Johnny Wilson contributed with catches over the middle, and Giles Jackson made multiple receptions during practice.
Regarding injuries, Zack Baun returned to practice after dealing with a back issue. However, A.J. Brown (hamstring), Elijah Cooks (shoulder), Kenyon Green (shoulder), Charley Hughlett (neck), Montrell Johnson (hamstring), Cameron Latu (knee), and Byron Young (groin) did not participate.
The team’s tight end position remains under evaluation ahead of roster decisions for the 2025 season. Dallas Goedert is expected to continue as starting tight end due to his skills as both a blocker and receiver. Grant Calcaterra returns for his fourth season after gaining experience filling in for Goedert last year; together they form what is described as “a terrific 1-2 combination.”
Competition remains open for additional tight end spots on both the main roster and practice squad. E.J. Jenkins seeks an increased role following his involvement in last season’s Super Bowl win, while new free agent signings Kylen Granson and Harrison Bryant are also competing for places. Cameron Latu and Nick Muse bring NFL experience into this mix as well.
The Eagles will hold their next public practice at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday evening at 6 PM.
