In advance of their NFL season opener against the Dallas Cowboys, the Philadelphia Eagles will hold a ceremony at Lincoln Financial Field to unveil two new banners. One banner, placed in the North corner of the stadium, will honor both of the team’s Super Bowl victories. The other, displayed on the East side, is a 2024 World Champions banner.
Planning for these banners began soon after the team’s Super Bowl parade. However, installation was postponed until after preseason due to summer events and logistical challenges. With multiple banners already hanging for previous NFC East Championships, NFC Championships, and Super Bowl titles, adjustments were necessary to accommodate the new 16-foot by 14-foot championship banner.
“We knew that was a bigger undertaking than in years past,” said Vice President of Facilities Operations Ryan Hummel. “We did joke about, you know, we’ll do that every year, and hopefully we run out of room.”
Eastern Sign Tech was responsible for producing the new banner. The process took more than 70 hours and required a 20-ton crane to lift it into place using a cable system. Technicians raised the banner over three levels in two phases before assembling it in the stadium’s rafters.
The final preparations focused on Thursday night’s presentation for fans both at Lincoln Financial Field and watching remotely.
“Really looking at it and trying to create the best thing that we could for the fans that would be in the stadium on gameday or watching from home or watching wherever they are in the world,” Hummel said.
As attention shifts to the start of a new season under Head Coach Nick Sirianni, team members have emphasized their focus on moving forward rather than reflecting on last year’s success. Still, future championships remain part of their planning.
“We’re ultimately set up to hang a couple more with the spacing that we have before we have to look at potentially doing another shuffle of the banners,” Hummel said.
