The Philadelphia Eagles have signed outside linebacker Patrick Johnson to their 53-man roster, filling a vacancy created after offensive lineman Kenyon Green was waived on Sunday.

Johnson, originally selected by the Eagles in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, rejoined the team this offseason and had a notable preseason performance that included both a sack and an interception. He was released during final roster cuts but returned to the practice squad before being elevated for Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys. In that game, Johnson played 12 defensive snaps and participated in over three-quarters of special teams plays. He now joins a group of edge rushers featuring Nolan Smith, Jalyx Hunt, Azeez Ojulari, Ogbo Okoronkwo, and Za’Darius Smith.

In addition to promoting Johnson, the Eagles made several changes to their practice squad. Running back Montrell Johnson and offensive lineman Hollin Pierce were added to the squad. Montrell Johnson had previously joined Philadelphia as an undrafted free agent from Florida but was waived during final cuts. Pierce began the season on the practice squad before his release last week; he returns following this latest move.

Wide receiver Elijah Cooks was released from the practice squad as part of these transactions.
