The Philadelphia Eagles overcame a 19-point deficit to defeat the Los Angeles Rams 33-26 at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday. The comeback was highlighted by key plays from wide receiver A.J. Brown, who credited the home crowd for helping energize the team in the second half after being held without a catch in the first.
“When I got the first catch in the second half, my momentum, my energy came from the crowd. … Man, it just lit a fire. Shoutout to the fans,” Brown said.
Brown finished with six receptions for 109 yards and scored his 50th career touchdown. He described his longest play, a 38-yard over-the-shoulder reception, as aided by luck: “God was with me because I did not see the ball. I didn’t,” Brown said. “I just stuck my hand out and it hit my hand and it bounced and that’s when I saw it.”
His two late catches on third-and-long situations kept Philadelphia’s comeback hopes alive. Brown added: “This team is very resilient. Just try to find ways to win. That’s always the motto is trying to find ways to win and we did a good job today, but you just can’t spot teams that many points. This is not a video game,” he said.
Head Coach Nick Sirianni praised Brown’s attitude through an early season slump: “I’m just really proud of how he’s handled a slow start as far as stat-wise, but he’s doing the right things without it in his hands to help us find ways to win football games, and today we needed it with the ball in his hands.”
The Eagles took their first lead late in the fourth quarter on a four-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Hurts to DeVonta Smith on fourth-and-goal with under two minutes remaining.
“Just trust my training. Putting myself in these situations, going out there, making the plays,” Smith said about performing under pressure.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts led an efficient offense in the second half, completing 17 of 24 passes for 209 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions—a personal milestone for most passing yards and touchdowns after halftime or overtime in his career.
“I truly feel it was just a matter of time,” Hurts said of turning around their performance after trailing early.
Offensive tackle Fred Johnson played an important role after entering for injured Lane Johnson following halftime. The Eagles scored touchdowns on three of four drives while Fred Johnson was at right tackle.
“All I know is my number was called. You got to deliver when you’re number is called, no matter the circumstance… My brothers need me, I gotta deliver,” Fred Johnson said.
Sirianni acknowledged Johnson’s contribution: “Fred did a great job…to come in and play meaningful football.” The Eagles reacquired Johnson this year via trade for added experience up front.
Cornerback Jakorian Bennett also discussed adjusting after joining Philadelphia mid-training camp: “I feel comfortable… Good with the playbook, good with techniques, great guys around me.”
Head Coach Sirianni reflected on what made this comeback significant: “I’ll always remember this win… We’ve got relentless guys in there and we have relentless players…that just kept getting up when I think a lot of teams would have stayed down.” He emphasized values like toughness and togetherness as central to overcoming adversity during games.
Sirianni also credited Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman for building team culture: “Part of that is success that we have. A big part of that is guys that Howie brings here…”
