The Philadelphia Eagles are preparing for their second preseason game of 2025, set to take place against the Cleveland Browns on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field. This matchup follows two days of joint practices between the teams and is seen as a key opportunity for players seeking to secure a spot on the final 53-man roster before cuts are made on August 26.
Cornerback Kelee Ringo emphasized the importance of every play during this period. “That is the way every player approaches it,” Ringo said. “You have a chance to make a play, to help the team. You look at it that way every day, whether we are in practice or in a game.”
One area drawing attention is the competition for the starting cornerback position opposite Quinyon Mitchell. Newly acquired Jakorian Bennett is expected to see his first action with the team, joining Adoree’ Jackson, Ringo, and Eli Ricks in contention for the role.
The Eagles’ rookie class will also be under scrutiny after showing promise in their previous outing against Cincinnati. Players such as Jihaad Campbell, Andrew Mukuba, Ty Robinson, Smael Mondon Jr., and Myles Hinton are anticipated to continue their development following additional experience from both game play and joint practices at NovaCare Complex.
On the offensive line, left guard Landon Dickerson’s recent knee injury has prompted adjustments. While Dickerson was seen post-practice wearing a sleeve on his right leg, there is no specific timeline for his return. Brett Toth has been filling in at left guard during practice sessions, while Matt Pryor and young linemen like Drew Kendall—who has performed well at center—are expected to see significant reps as depth options are evaluated.
Quarterback Tanner McKee drew praise for his performance against Cincinnati, completing 20 of 25 passes with two touchdowns and contributing on a quarterback sneak. The coaching staff plans to give McKee more playing time alongside Dorian Thompson-Robinson and rookie Kyle McCord as they assess progress within the offensive system.
Wide receiver remains another competitive position group beyond established starters A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, and Jahan Dotson. Decisions regarding which receivers will round out the roster are expected to be influenced by performances in Saturday’s game.
Other ongoing battles include those at running back—where Saquon Barkley, Will Shipley, and A.J. Dillon lead but competition continues for potential practice squad spots—as well as tight end depth behind Dallas Goedert and Grant Calcaterra. Defensive positions such as edge rusher, defensive tackle, linebacker, and safety also remain unsettled with several players vying for roles.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman faces difficult choices ahead as he works toward finalizing what he hopes will be a strong roster for the upcoming season.
