The Philadelphia Eagles have placed rookie safety Andrew Mukuba on Injured Reserve after he suffered an ankle injury late in Sunday’s game against Dallas. Head Coach Nick Sirianni said Monday that Mukuba would be out for some time. The move to Injured Reserve means Mukuba will miss at least the next four games, beginning with the Black Friday matchup against Chicago.
To fill the vacancy on the active roster, the team signed wide receiver and punt returner Britain Covey from the practice squad. In addition, offensive tackle Luke Felix-Fualalo has been moved to the Practice Squad Injured Reserve list due to an undisclosed injury.
Mukuba, a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, appeared in all 11 games this season with 10 starts. He recorded 46 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions, and half a sack. His first career interception came in Week 2 against Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio commented on Mukuba’s progress: “I think we talked about it last week. He has been playing a lot better, avoiding the big negative plays and playing to his ability.”
With Mukuba sidelined, Sydney Brown is set to start at safety. Brown replaced Reed Blankenship during Sunday’s game after Blankenship left with a thigh injury. Brown said Tuesday: “I’m ready. I feel like I’ve been ready since (Training) Camp. I think I’ve been prepared since I got here. I’ve had a couple setbacks in the past. It’s just been something to work back from, but I think I’ve been ready to go since I came here.”
Britain Covey returns to the Eagles’ active roster after previously spending time on their practice squad. Since joining as a rookie free agent in 2022 from Utah, Covey has played in 38 games for Philadelphia. In 2023, he led the NFL with 417 punt return yards and was noted as being the only player that season with multiple punt returns of over 50 yards.
Covey’s promotion comes as Xavier Gipson deals with a shoulder injury sustained during Sunday’s game against Dallas; Gipson has not practiced this week.
Luke Felix-Fualalo was also placed on Practice Squad Injured Reserve following an undisclosed injury. Originally from Brisbane, Australia, Felix-Fualalo joined Philadelphia as its international exemption after signing as an undrafted free agent out of Hawaii post-2025 NFL Draft.
With these moves, Philadelphia now has two open spots on its practice squad; one must be filled by an international player.
