For nearly 30 years, the Philadelphia Eagles have worked to restore outdoor areas at 28 local schools through their annual Playground Build initiative. A key element of this project has been the creation of murals on nearby walls, a task led by Jane Golden, founder and Executive Director of Mural Arts Philadelphia.
Golden, who has served with Mural Arts for 42 years, announced she will step down as executive director in July 2026. Her leadership has played a significant role in beautifying public spaces throughout Philadelphia.
Don Smolenski, President of the Philadelphia Eagles, commented on Golden’s contributions: “For almost 30 years, we have had the privilege of working with Jane Golden and Mural Arts to revitalize public school playgrounds in our community. Through her vision and dedication, Jane has helped transform these spaces into places of connection, creativity, and pride for the City of Philadelphia. We are grateful for her contributions and know her impact will last for generations to come.”
Golden reflected on her work and its ongoing nature: “I’m really driven by the impact that art can have on the life of our city. And I feel very passionate and sort of relentless about it,” she told The Philadelphia Inquirer. “People always say, ‘You’ve done so much,’ but there are always things to do.”
The Eagles’ Playground Build program is based on providing children with safe and attractive environments for learning and play. The organization views this effort as an investment in the city that supports them each season. Golden’s involvement has been instrumental in achieving these goals.
