The Philadelphia Eagles opened their 2025 season with a win over the Dallas Cowboys, highlighting contributions from several players beyond quarterback Jalen Hurts. While Hurts played a key role in the NFC East victory, other members of the team delivered notable performances that helped secure the result.
Defensive tackle Jordan Davis had one of his strongest games to date, recording six tackles, including one for loss, and providing pass-rush pressure in place of Jalen Carter. Davis was effective against the run and maintained high energy throughout his 53 snaps on the field.
Wide receiver Jahan Dotson continued his upward trajectory from training camp into the regular season. Dotson made a significant play by catching a 51-yard pass from Hurts on third-and-6, which set up a touchdown by running back Saquon Barkley before halftime.
Running back Will Shipley also contributed early in the game with three carries for 26 yards and added a 20-yard gain on a swing pass. Shipley’s performance was cut short due to a rib injury, but his early output suggested he could be an important part of the offense alongside Barkley and A.J. Dillon.
On special teams and defense, safety Sydney Brown rotated at safety with Andrew Mukuba and Reed Blankenship. Brown also led an effective kickoff coverage unit that limited Dallas to an average of 20.2 yards on five returns, at a time when most kickoffs around the league were being returned frequently in Week 1.
Linebacker Jihaad Campbell made his NFL debut with three tackles, one pass defensed, and one forced fumble while showing versatility across positions. Campbell contributed to a defensive effort that held Dallas scoreless in the second half.
Punter Braden Mann stepped up after a long delay without punting duties in the first half. Mann executed three punts for an average of 48.7 yards each, including kicks that pinned Dallas deep in their own territory during critical moments late in the game.
Linebacker Zack Baun led the defense with nine tackles and prevented Dallas running back Miles Sanders from scoring after a long run. His efforts helped force and recover a fumble shortly afterward.
Wide receivers DeVonta Smith and A.J. Brown were not prominent as pass catchers but contributed significantly as blockers in the running game. Their efforts helped Philadelphia accumulate 158 rushing yards and three touchdowns against Dallas.
Head Coach Nick Sirianni emphasized “contribution over credit” as part of this season’s approach, citing how Smith, Brown, and Dotson’s blocking reflected the team’s mindset.
