The Philadelphia Eagles started their 2025 NFL season with a 24-20 win over the Dallas Cowboys at Lincoln Financial Field on Thursday night. The game was marked by a strong performance from quarterback Jalen Hurts, who scored two rushing touchdowns and helped the team secure the victory.
In the first quarter, defensive lineman Jalen Carter was disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct before Dallas’s first offensive play. The Cowboys took an early lead with a touchdown run by Javonte Williams after a long pass to CeeDee Lamb. The Eagles answered quickly with a 70-yard drive capped by a 4-yard touchdown run from Hurts.
The second quarter saw both teams trading scores. Dallas regained the lead with another short rushing touchdown, but Hurts responded with his second rushing score to tie the game. After a Cowboys field goal, Saquon Barkley gave Philadelphia its first lead of the night on a 10-yard run following a deep pass from Hurts to Jahan Dotson. Dallas closed out the half with a 53-yard field goal, leaving the Eagles ahead 21-20 at halftime.
In the third quarter, kicker Jake Elliott extended Philadelphia’s lead to four points with a 58-yard field goal. The defense also made key plays, including Jihaad Campbell and Byron Young forcing a fumble that was recovered by Quinyon Mitchell. Weather interrupted play when severe thunderstorms caused a suspension; action resumed later in the evening.
During the fourth quarter, left guard Landon Dickerson left due to back issues and was replaced by Brett Toth. The Eagles’ defense stopped Dallas on fourth down late in the game, allowing Hurts to seal the win with a first-down run as time expired.
Hurts finished his night completing 19 of 23 passes for 152 yards and added 62 yards rushing along with two touchdowns. Rookie linebacker Jihaad Campbell contributed significantly in his debut, making a pass breakup and forcing a crucial fumble. Running back Saquon Barkley had 60 rushing yards on 18 carries and caught passes for another 24 yards.
The Eagles will next face the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, September 14 at Arrowhead Stadium.
