The Philadelphia Eagles have released their list of inactive players ahead of the regular season finale against the Washington Commanders. The team previously announced that some starters would rest for Sunday’s game, with Tanner McKee set to make his first start of the season.
The Eagles’ inactives include defensive tackle Jalen Carter, linebacker Nakobe Dean, guard Landon Dickerson, safety Marcus Epps, tight end Dallas Goedert, tackle Lane Johnson, and outside linebacker Jaelan Phillips.
Philadelphia remains in contention for the NFC’s No. 2 seed. To secure this position, the Eagles must defeat Washington and rely on a loss by the Chicago Bears to the Detroit Lions at 4:25 PM. If they do not achieve the No. 2 seed, their playoff opponent will be determined by other game outcomes; they could host either the Los Angeles Rams or San Francisco 49ers depending on whether the Rams win or lose against the Arizona Cardinals.
Head Coach Nick Sirianni addressed his decision to rest several starters on Friday: “At the end of the day, it’s not a guarantee that we can get to two seed, but I can rest the starters,” Sirianni said. “Just thought that was the best thing for our football team right there. Feel really good about the guys that are going to go in there and play.
“Obviously, you can’t rest everybody, and so we’ve had a good week of practice. We’re going in there to try to win the game with some guys that haven’t played a ton of snaps on offense and defense but obviously have contributed. Just felt like that was the best thing for the football team for this week and moving forward.”
For Washington, veteran quarterback Josh Johnson will start as Jayden Daniels and Marcus Mariota are both inactive along with Sam Hartman (practice squad). Johnson has started once earlier this season and holds a career record of 1-9 as an NFL starter.
Other Commanders inactives include running back Chase Edmonds, tackle Laremy Tunsil, defensive end Jalyn Holmes, and defensive tackle Sheldon Day.
