Dodger Stadium, one of Major League Baseball’s oldest ballparks, has added a new marker to its collection of historical displays. On Thursday, the Los Angeles Dodgers installed a plaque in right field to commemorate Kyle Schwarber’s home run during Game 3 of the National League Division Series.
Schwarber, playing for the Philadelphia Phillies, hit a Statcast-projected 455-foot home run off Yoshinobu Yamamoto. The ball cleared the seating bowl and struck the top of the pavilion roof in right field. Despite not fully leaving the stadium, recent renovations led Dodgers officials to consider it as having left the park.
By installing this plaque, Schwarber joins a select group of players recognized for hitting a home run out of Dodger Stadium. Previous members include Willie Stargell (Pirates), Mike Piazza (Dodgers), Mark McGwire (Cardinals), Giancarlo Stanton (Marlins), and Fernando Tatis Jr. (Padres).
The Dodgers noted that Schwarber is only the second left-handed hitter to achieve this at Dodger Stadium, following Stargell. Both are also the only players to have done so to right field.
Shohei Ohtani nearly joined this group in July 2024 with a projected 473-foot shot to right field—the second-longest homer at Dodger Stadium in the Statcast era—but his hit did not clear the pavilion roof, which remains one of the team’s criteria for recognition.
“It may be only a matter of time until Ohtani has a plaque of his own out there. But for now, Schwarber and Stargell are in an exclusive club within an exclusive club.”
