The University of Pennsylvania baseball team lost to Delaware, 5-3, in a game played on March 10 at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium.
This result is part of the ongoing season for Penn Quakers Men’s Baseball, which competes at the NCAA Division I level as part of the University of Pennsylvania’s intercollegiate athletics program, according to the official website. Tuesday’s contest saw both teams use a combined total of 13 pitchers. For Penn, Gavin Collins, Qwynn Ahearn, and Jack Warner each recorded an RBI. Ahearn went two-for-two with a walk and currently leads Penn with a .444 batting average. John Cerwinski, Braden Fridgen, and Thomas Egbert made their season debuts on the mound for the Quakers. Freshman Jay Secretarski, junior Nick Spaventa, and senior Ryan Taylor contributed additional hits for Penn.
Delaware took an early lead after loading the bases in the first inning and scoring on consecutive hit-by-pitches. Both teams scored in the second inning before Delaware extended its advantage to 4-1 by the fifth frame. The Blue Hens added another run in the sixth inning. In response, Penn narrowed the gap to 5-3 but was unable to generate further offense over the final three innings as Delaware secured the win.
Penn Quakers Men’s Baseball continues its season with a three-game series against East Carolina over the weekend.
