Philadelphia Union players Bruno Damiani and Kai Wagner have been named to the latest MLS Team of the Matchday following their recent performances. The recognition comes after the team secured a place in the postseason.

Damiani scored the decisive goal that clinched Philadelphia’s playoff spot, converting a cross from Milan Iloski. This marks Damiani’s second selection for Team of the Matchweek honors this season, making him the 14th different Union player to receive such recognition. Other Union players who have earned this honor during the current campaign include Markus Anderson, Andre Blake, Tai Baribo, Ian Glavinovich, Jakob Glesnes, Nathan Harriel, Milan Iloski, Jovan Lukic, Olwethu Makhanya, Quinn Sullivan, Indiana Vassilev and Kai Wagner.

Wagner was selected for his defensive efforts that contributed to Philadelphia’s 11th clean sheet of the season. The 28-year-old left back has now been named to Team of the Matchday for two consecutive matchdays. Over 76 games played this season, Wagner has recorded 10 assists and two goals. He is now only the third player in club history with more than 70 goal contributions in Major League Soccer play.

The Union continue to lead both the Eastern Conference and Supporters’ Shield race. They are ahead of San Diego (56 points), FC Cincinnati (52 points), Minnesota United (51 points) and Inter Miami CF (who trail by 11 points but have four games in hand).

Eight Philadelphia players will depart for international duty during the upcoming FIFA International Break. The team will return on September 13 with an away match against Vancouver Whitecaps FC at 9:30 p.m. ET on MLS Season Pass.
