The University of Pennsylvania women’s soccer team ended its match against Dartmouth in a 1-1 draw on Saturday at Rhodes Field. Both teams now hold records of 4-2-3, with Penn standing at 0-1-1 and Dartmouth at 1-0-1 in Ivy League play.

Freshman Casey Forman made her first career start for Penn, appearing in just her second game. Sophomore Eden Veenema continued her streak by playing the full 90 minutes for the ninth consecutive match this season. Defensively, Penn limited Dartmouth to only three shots on goal.

Junior Abbey Cook played a key role for the Quakers, taking five of the team’s 14 shots and scoring the equalizer late in the game. “The chaotic ending capped off what was a fantastic effort from Abbey Cook, who came away from the match with five shots, three shots on goal, and the point-earning goal for the Quakers,” according to the team report.

The first half saw few clear chances as both sides focused on defense. Early opportunities included a throw-in from Cook leading to a shot by Mia Fuss that was stopped by Dartmouth’s goalkeeper Ola Goebel. A corner kick in the 13th minute resulted in two attempts by Cook but both were denied.

Dartmouth took the lead in the 56th minute after being awarded a penalty kick due to a foul inside Penn’s box. Freshman Lykke Ihrfelt converted from the spot to put Dartmouth ahead.

Penn pressed forward after falling behind, with notable efforts from Cook and Fuss. The tying goal came in the 85th minute when Taylor Ferraro sent a free kick into the box that found Cook, who scored with a backwards header past Goebel.

Penn will next face Brown on October 4 in Rhode Island.
