Contagion Live features Temple University Hospital’s infectious disease team in new video series

Contagion Live has launched its new “Media Day” series by featuring Temple University Hospital’s infectious disease program. The series, which consists of nine episodes, includes interviews with seven individuals from the hospital and the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University.

The episodes highlight various aspects of the infectious disease field as practiced at Temple. Rafik Samuel, MD, Chief of the Section of Infectious Diseases at Temple University Hospital (TUH), provides an overview of both TUH and its infectious disease program in the first episode. Dr. Samuel also discusses how clinical care for patients with HIV has evolved and details training opportunities for fellows.

Stephanie Spivack, MD, Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, appears in two episodes. She speaks about the Center for Health Justice and Bioethics, advocacy opportunities, travel medicine training, and emerging research on infections among people with substance use disorder. Dr. Spivack also addresses opportunities for collaboration between departments.

Raven Boone, DO, a first-year fellow, offers advice to those considering a career in infectious diseases and discusses her experience in Temple’s fellowship program. Aaron D. Mishkin, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine at the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, explains the role that infectious disease specialists play in organ transplantation.

Heather Clauss, MD, Senior Associate Dean of Faculty Affairs for the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, talks about transitioning from training to fellowship to faculty positions. She emphasizes the importance of culture, community and mentorship within medical education.

Jesse Veisblatt, MD, another first-year fellow featured in the series, shares his introduction to infectious diseases and describes unique cases encountered at Temple.

Sara Keely Schultz, MD, FACP—Director of the Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at TUH—provides insight into Temple’s ID fellowship from her perspective as both a former fellow and current leader.
