Philadelphia Union midfielder Cavan Sullivan has been selected for the U.S. Under-17 Men’s National Team training camp, the club announced. The camp will be held from September 1 to 8 in Noordwijk, Netherlands, under head coach Gonzalo Segares.
Sullivan is joined by Kellan LeBlanc, a Union II midfielder, and Jamir Johnson, an Academy forward. This is Sullivan’s third call-up to the U-17 national team; he has previously made six appearances and scored one goal.
The upcoming training camp is part of ongoing efforts by the U.S. Soccer Federation to increase youth programming and help players move up to the senior national team level with hopes of representing the country at international tournaments.
Segares will lead the squad in two friendly matches against the Netherlands on September 5 and September 8 at Gemeentelijk Sportpark SJC in Noordwijk. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. local time (1 p.m. ET).
All invited players were born after January 1, 2008, making them eligible for this fall’s FIFA U-17 World Cup in Qatar. The United States will play Burkina Faso on November 5, Tajikistan on November 8, and Czechia on November 11 in Group I.
Sixteen out of twenty-one rostered players come from ten different Major League Soccer clubs. LA Galaxy and Philadelphia Union each have three representatives—the most from any club—while New York Red Bulls and Real Salt Lake have two each. Other MLS clubs represented include Atlanta United, Charlotte FC, Columbus Crew, LAFC, New York City FC, and Sporting Kansas City.
After this month’s matches in the Netherlands, the team will meet again during October’s FIFA window before Segares announces his final roster for Qatar.
