Roger Harris, president of Amtrak, said in a statement that the railroad is ready to support soccer fan travel this summer with frequent service and infrastructure preparedness along the Northeast Corridor.
“Amtrak is excited to welcome soccer fans from North America and across the globe as they cheer on their home nation teams and travel between cities for matches,” said Harris. “With more than 300 daily trains, Amtrak is prepared to play a key role in delivering safe and reliable intercity travel this summer. We are fully committed to running a world-class railroad, serving as a trusted partner to peer agencies, and ensuring our infrastructure is ready to accommodate new and returning guests.”
Summer 2026 is expected to bring a significant increase in travelers as more than 100 FIFA World Cup matches are scheduled across North America alongside America250 celebrations marking the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. According to Amtrak, this period could be one of the busiest in its 55-year history, and customers are being urged to book early as demand for seats rises nationwide.
Amtrak provides daily service to nearly every World Cup host city, including Philadelphia, New York/New Jersey, Boston, Washington, DC, Atlanta, Miami, Chicago-area connections, Dallas, Los Angeles, Seattle, the San Francisco Bay Area, Toronto, and Vancouver. Many stations offer transit or rideshare connections to stadiums for multi-city travel during the tournament period.
The William H. Gray III 30th Street Station in Philadelphia serves as a major Northeast Corridor hub for Amtrak’s Acela, Northeast Regional, and Keystone Service trains. The station connects intercity passengers with SEPTA Regional Rail and local transit options near Center City Philadelphia—positioning it as a central gateway for visitors traveling between Washington, New York, and Boston.
Harris serves as president of Amtrak, overseeing service delivery and operational coordination across the national network. In this role he supports preparations for major travel periods through infrastructure planning on the Northeast Corridor and collaboration with federal, state, and local partners during nationally significant events.
