Adidas has introduced TRIONDA, the official match ball for the FIFA World Cup 2026. The announcement marks the beginning of the countdown to next year’s tournament, which will be hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The name TRIONDA is derived from “Tri” meaning three and “Onda” meaning waves, referencing both the three host countries and the design motif. The ball features a four-panel construction with red, green, and blue elements representing each nation. A triangle in the center of each panel symbolizes unity among the hosts. Distinctive icons are also incorporated: a star for the USA, a maple leaf for Canada, and an eagle for Mexico.

Gold detailing is included as a tribute to the FIFA World Cup trophy. The new panel structure is intended to provide improved stability in flight through deep seams and embossed graphics. Adidas states that these features enhance grip during play in various weather conditions.

Sam Handy, General Manager at adidas Soccer, said: “With TRIONDA, every detail has an impact. The embossed textures, layered graphics and bold colours make the ball stand out instantly, creating a design that feels alive in your hands. It’s the most visually playful FIFA World Cup ball we’ve ever created – a piece of craftsmanship built for the biggest stage, that makes you want to hold it, admire it, and above all, play with it.”

The TRIONDA incorporates updated adidas Connected Ball Technology with a new side-mounted chip system using a 500Hz inertial measurement unit (IMU). This sensor provides real-time data to match officials via Video Assistant Referee (VAR) systems to assist with decisions such as offside calls and identifying individual touches on the ball. The technology was developed with Kinexon.

Solene Stoermann, Category Director at adidas, commented: “Football creates joy – and no other tournament encapsulates that joy like a FIFA World Cup. For the first time, we’ll see it travel across three countries, and with that comes an Official Match Ball worthy of the occasion. As soon as the tournament hosts were announced, we knew we had to make something special – a ball that can be played everywhere, from the backyard to the world’s biggest stage. Next summer, TRIONDA is set to be a main character in the biggest show on earth, and we cannot wait for fans and players to enjoy the moment.”

The TRIONDA match ball is available for purchase at $170 through adidas retail stores and selected retailers as well as online at https://www.adidas.com/us/fifa_world_cup-balls.

Adidas is headquartered in Herzogenaurach, Germany. In 2024 it employed over 62,000 people worldwide with sales totaling €23.7 billion.
