Aaron Nola continued his rehabilitation process on Wednesday night with Triple-A Lehigh Valley, as he works toward a possible return to the Philadelphia Phillies. The right-handed pitcher allowed one run over 3 2/3 innings, recording three strikeouts and two walks. He threw a total of 69 pitches, with 40 going for strikes.

This outing marked Nola’s second rehab start. In his previous appearance last Friday in Worcester, he pitched three scoreless innings and struck out three batters.

Nola has been sidelined since May 15 after being placed on the injured list due to a sprained right ankle. During his recovery, he experienced soreness in his side, which was later diagnosed as a stress fracture in his right rib.

Following his first rehab game, Nola said both injuries felt good. “Assuming that is once again the case coming out of Wednesday’s start, the veteran right-hander will likely make at least one more rehab start — either next Tuesday or Wednesday.”

If Nola continues to recover without setbacks, he could be activated by mid-August after completing another rehab appearance.
